FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 19, 2009

Jon Swope named President / CEO St. John’s Health System, Springfield Kim Day expands role with Sisters of
Mercy Health System

Jon Swope has been named president / CEO for St. John’s Health System, effective Dec. 1, 2009. St. John’s Health System is part of the Sisters of Mercy Health System (Mercy) based in St. Louis.

Swope succeeds Kim Day, who was promoted to an expanded role over regional markets regional markets for Sisters of Mercy Health System (Mercy). Day’s geographic scope now includes the combined Joplin/Kansas region in addition to Springfield and Arkansas. Day will remain based in Springfield, but will lead efforts to expand and connect Mercy’s facilities across this region.

Swope will assume direct responsibilities for St. John’s Health System, including: St. John’s Hospital in Springfield; the five regional hospitals in Lebanon, Aurora, Cassville, Mountain View and Berryville; St. John’s Clinic, with locations throughout the region including the new Joplin division; and regional managed care plans. He has held multiple leadership positions within Mercy over nearly 30 years in locations including Springfield, Kansas, St. Louis and Washington, most recently serving as president of St. John’s Hospital.

“Jon Swope’s decades of experience in healthcare and his tenure at Mercy makes him an ideal candidate to continue the focus on the local communities served by St. John’s Health System and will provide for a smooth transition”, said Dr. Dominic Meldi, St. John’s Health System Board Chairman.  “He is familiar with the operations at St. John’s and the strategic direction for Mercy and is a proven leader within the organization.  Jon is best positioned to continue the success experienced by St. John’s over the past several years.”

As a regional leader, Kim Day has had great success in building a more unified Mercy ministry across a broad geographic area, said Lynn Britton, Mercy President / CEO. “By concentrating on his regional role, Kim will be able to further the work that he has begun in connecting and leveraging resources, technologies and plans throughout the region,” he added.

Kim assumed responsibility earlier this year, a position he held while concurrently serving as St. John’s CEO. He was named to the CEO role in 2005.
